The Artist (contd) |
| |
There is a dignity to subsistence, the washing on the line outside a house that has seen better days, water running over the broken pavements. The beach is a workplace, people all have a role to play, rowing the boat that takes the nets to sea, pulling in the nets, sorting the fish and bartering on the beach or carrying them to market.
Then there are the dhows used for transport and also for fishing in deep waters, so successful in design that they have not changed in centuries. Indeed some of them are very old, their parts being constantly repaired or replaced.
